China-Arab states’ relations are an important part of the comprehensive diplomatic policies of China.On June 5,2014,Chinese President Xi Jinping addressed the Sixth Ministerial Level Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum,during which he proposed that China and Arab countries should deepen all-round cooperation and develop a China-Arab strategic cooperative relationship,taking advantage of new opportunities of co-constructing the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st century oceanic Silk Road in the coming decade.All concerned parties would strive to build a community of common interests and a destiny based on the principles of cooperation and sharing. This parallel development in addition to “The Belt and Road Initiative”,the China-Arab States Expo(“the Expo” hereafter) is facing a significant strategic opportunity.The party committee and government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region are more aware of the strategic positioning of the Expo,which serves as a platform on which high-level dialogue,policy exchanges,trade and economic cooperation as well as humanitarian exchanges are conducted.It also serves as a pivot of the strategic Silk Road Economic Belt.From this perspective,the Expo is expected to play an even bigger role in the all-round exchanges among the countries along the belt. Co-construction of “the Belt and Road” is consistent with the trends of the time and is in the best interests of the people of China and of the Arab states.With the flee flow of economic factors,and efficient allocation of resources,as well as the deep integration of markets,the Arab states will have a bigger chance of gaining diverse,balanced,sustainable,development.China has also proposed the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Development Bank,with an authorized stock capital of $100 billion.In addition,China set up aSilk Road Fund using $40 billion to fund the infrastructure development in Asia and the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese government is encouraging companies and corporations to invest in Arab states’ energy,petrochemical,agricultural,manufacturing and service industries to support the employment,industrialization,and economic development of all the countries concerned.In the coming decade,China-Arab region bilateral trade is expected to grow to $600 billion and China’s financial investment stock to Arab countries is likely to surpass $60 billion.China and Arab countries are joining hands in constructing the Belt and Road Initiative,and their strategic,cooperative,relations will constantly be elevated to higher levels. In focusing on research of China and Arab region’s trade and economic ties,this report systematically analyses the regional situation of the Middle East,dependencies on China-Arab region trade,China-Arab region trade structures,and dependencies on China-Arab region investments.It also discusses critical issues such as the bilateral trade in services,bilateral agricultural and food trade,the development of Islamic finance,and the internationalization of the RMB.It is hoped that the analyses found within this piece will serve as an important reference to our readers. The vision of “the Belt and Road Initiative” is becoming abundantly clear.The people of China and of the Arab states are expected to gain more development opportunities thanks to the implementation of this strategy.As an important cooperative mechanism,the Expo is expected to attract more participants with insights to promote the trade and economic relations of China and Arab states as well as share the benefits of China-Arab region’s cooperation.In the meantime,it is sincerely hoped that readers will have informative and productive exchanges that will allow more refinement and,as a finished product,an even better report in the future.

Annual statistical reports from the National Bureau of Statistics and the China Statistical Yearbook are the main data sources of this document.However,the national data in this book does not include that of the HongKong and Macao Special Administrative Region,the Taiwan province.Also,the data in the energy balance tables does not cover non-commercial energy.The Tibet energy balance data is unavailable yet. Ⅱ.How to Use (Ⅰ) Years Conventionally,the year indicated in the title of the book is the year of publication.The latest data indicated in this Yearbook are data in the previous years.For example,this book is titled 2021 Beijing Statistical Yearbook,which means it will be published in 2021 while the latest data in the book is by the end of 2020. “Years” in the statistical tables are marked in three ways,each indicating a different meaning.Firstly,the statistical table is named“******(AAAA-BBBB)”,which refers to that the data listed in the table are those from the year of AAAA to BBBB;Secondly,the statistical table contains no years,indicating that the data listed in the table are those of current year and last year;Thirdly,the statistical table is named“******(AAAA)”,indicating that the data listed in the table are those of the year of AAAA. (Ⅱ) Symbols Symbols in statistical tables include: #:means that the item is included in the total.Grouped indicators marked with“#”are part of the total,while those without“#”mean that sum of included items equals to the total. ||:grouping symbol,means that there are multiple ways of grouping the indicators. …:means that the figure is less than the minimum measurement unit of the table. Blank:means that the figure is unknown or unavailable. ***:When it is possible to identify or infer the identity of the individual statistical respondent based on the data,it shall be shielded and indicated with“***”. (Ⅲ) Data 1.Each chapter in this Yearbook consists of two parts:historical data tables and current year data tables.In principle,historical data that are shown in the historical data tables can be used continuously;for some historical data that have been adjusted,please refer to the latest yearbook;When using the data,it is necessary to refer to the Brief Introduction and the explanations on the change in method system,standards and scope in the Notes under the statistical tables.In the current year data tables,if the standards and scope,calculation method for the corresponding indicators,and certain data greatly differ from that of the previous year,they shall be explained in the Notes under the statistical tables. 2.Compared with the 2020 Beijing Statistical Yearbook,adjustments have been made to the content of some chapters.Historical data on related indicators including the permanent population,per capita GDP,per capital water resources and per capita energy consumption for living purpose,etc.have been revised in accordance with the results of the seventh population census in Beijing;historical data on permanent population by age composition and historical data on year-ond number;historical data on statistical survey on gymnasiums and statiums and historical data on addved value of sports industry are added in the Culture and Sports part;and adjustments have been made to the contents of some chapters including the employment,resident income and expenditure,investment and real estatement,and science,and technology. (Ⅳ)Electronic CD-ROM Beijing Statistical Yearbook is provided with a CD-ROM,which contains Chinese and English versions of this Yearbook.The CD-ROM helps users in working with and processing the data. (Ⅴ) The sum of some statistics or some relative numbers in this Yearbook might have certain calculation errors because of the choice of different units of measurement.All the statistics have not undergone mechanical adjustment.
